Hello Governor Mifflin families,

As an integral part of our district’s Health and Safety Plan communications protocol, I provide the following advisory. Today, we learned of two positive cases of COVID-19 impacting Brecknock Elementary and Governor Mifflin Intermediate School.

Here are the facts of these cases that are appropriate to share

Case 1 – Brecknock staff member

  • The staff member was last on campus on November 6 and then remained home due to someone in their household pending a COVID-19 test.
  • The staff member developed symptoms on November 9 and received a positive COVID-19 test result today.

Case 2 – GMIS student

  • The student is in 6th grade and was last on campus on October 30.
  • The student developed symptoms and received a positive test result on November 13.

In following our protocols, our district administrators are following previous guidance from the PA Department of Health. Our Operations Department has already begun deep cleaning impacted classrooms and any common areas.

As COVID-19 numbers continue to rise in our community, we must all do our part to ensure that we are not taking actions that put ourselves or others at an increased risk of exposure. Please continue to practice social distancing, wear a mask, and wash your hands often. If you or someone in your household is awaiting a COVID-19 test or experiencing symptoms, please do not come to school.

We thank you for your continued cooperation and support.

Sincerely,

Dr. Steve Gerhard
Superintendent
Governor Mifflin School District
