Hello Governor Mifflin families,

As an integral part of our district’s Health and Safety Plan communications protocol, I provide the following advisory. Today, we learned of two positive cases of COVID-19 on our campus impacting Governor Mifflin Middle School.

Here are the facts of these cases that are appropriate to share:

Case #1 (student)

  • The student is in 8th grade and attends the PM hybrid session at Governor Mifflin Middle School.
  • The student was last on campus on November 6.
  • The student began experiencing symptoms on November 10 and received a positive COVID-19 test result on November 17.
  • The student does not use district transportation or participate in extracurricular activities.

Case #2 (staff member)

  • The staff member was last on campus on November 12.
  • The staff member began experiencing symptoms one the evening of November 12 and received a positive COVID-19 test result on November 17.
  • No student quarantines are necessary

It is important to note these two cases are not linked.

In following our protocols, our district administrators are following previous guidance from the PA Department of Health. Our Operations Department has already begun deep cleaning impacted classrooms and any common areas.

As COVID-19 numbers continue to rise in our community, we must all do our part to ensure that we are not taking actions that put ourselves or others at an increased risk of exposure. Please continue to practice social distancing, wear a mask, and wash your hands often. Most importantly, and this may be the most difficult request, especially for this time of year, but we must limit our interaction with others outside of our households. Our ability to remain open is a community effort and we need each and every one of us to do our part to keep our community safe and healthy.

Sincerely,

Dr. Steve Gerhard
Superintendent
Governor Mifflin School District
