Hello Governor Mifflin families,

As an integral part of our district’s Health and Safety Plan communications protocol, I provide the following advisory. Today, we learned that a student at Cumru Elementary has tested positive for COVID-19.

Here are the facts regarding this case that are appropriate to share:

  • The student who tested positive is a third grade student.
  • The student developed symptoms during the school day today and was sent home by the nurse.
  • The student took a COVID-19 rapid test and received a positive test result this afternoon.
  • The student does not ride the bus or participate in extracurricular activities.
  • We have sent a separate phone call and email to students and staff members who will be required to quarantine as a result of this case. However, if you have previously received a quarantine notice, please continue to quarantine following the dates provided in that previous notice.

In following our protocols, our district administrators are following previous guidance from the PA Department of Health. Our Operations Department has already begun deep cleaning impacted classrooms and any common areas.

As a reminder if you or someone in your household has taken a COVID-19 test, we ask that you do not return to school until a negative test result is received. Students who may need to remain out of school while pending a result can join classes virtually to avoid falling behind. We thank you for your continued diligence in the daily practice of our Health and Safety Plan and the procedures within. We ask that you continue to provide daily health screenings before each school day.

Sincerely,

Dr. Steve Gerhard
Superintendent
Governor Mifflin School District
