Hello Governor Mifflin families,

As an integral part of our district’s Health and Safety Plan communications protocol, I provide the following advisory. Today, we learned that a student at Governor Mifflin Middle School has tested positive for COVID-19.

Here are the facts regarding this case that are appropriate to share:

  • The student is in 8th grade at GM Middle School and attends classes during the PM hybrid schedule.
  • The student developed symptoms on Friday, October 30, which was the last day the student was in school.
  • The student received a positive COVID-19 test result today and reported it to the district.
  • The student does not use district transportation or participate in extracurricular activities.
  • We have sent a separate phone call and email to students who will be required to quarantine as a result of this case. However, if you have previously received a quarantine notice, please continue to quarantine following the dates provided in that previous notice.

In following our protocols, our district administrators are following previous guidance from the PA Department of Health. Our Operations Department has already begun deep cleaning impacted classrooms and any common areas.

As a reminder if you or someone in your household has taken a COVID-19 test, we ask that you do not return to school until a negative test result is received. Students who may need to remain out of school while pending a result can join classes virtually to avoid falling behind. We thank you for your continued diligence in the daily practice of our Health and Safety Plan and the procedures within. We ask that you continue to provide daily health screenings before each school day.

Sincerely,

Dr. Steve Gerhard
Superintendent
Governor Mifflin School District
