Hello Governor Mifflin families,

I send this message with an incredible sense of gratitude after a successful first week back in our schools. Throughout this week I visited each of our buildings on multiple occasions and saw for myself the way our families and students worked alongside our staff to navigate and adapt to the many health and safety precautions and protocols that we have in place. There were obstacles to overcome, but I am appreciative for the patience, perseverance, and problem-solving I witnessed on behalf of parents, students, and staff. It is because of you that we are able to return to school and it is now the responsibility of all of us to ensure that will be able to continue to have our buildings open for learning.

As we head into this extended Labor Day weekend, I ask you to continue to partner with us. All of the planning and precautions in place in our schools are not effective if we do not continue to use safe practices throughout our community. A long weekend is not the time to let our guard down. Previous data shows us that COVID-19 cases have spiked in the weeks following Memorial Day and 4th of July. I ask you to please consider this information and work alongside us in our efforts to social distance, wear masks in public, and avoid large gatherings.

Please continue to practice daily health screenings and follow the guidelines presented in our district’s Health & Safety Plan. These steps are key to keeping our schools open and offering in-person options for student learning, but they cannot be reserved for school days only. We need your continued efforts during school hours and outside of school as well.

This past week has proven what we already knew: Governor Mifflin is a community that cares. Our students and staff worked hard to return to a learning environment. Let’s be mindful not to squander those efforts or the opportunity to enjoy a full school year.

In gratitude,

Dr. Steve Gerhard
Superintendent
Governor Mifflin School District
