Curriculum Development
-
Curriculum Mapping – Curriculum mapping is a method by which teachers in the school and district examine and collect data about the operation and delivery of curriculum. The data collected represents an overview of what actually is taught by each teacher during a given school year. Teachers use calendars and lesson plans to map their teaching of major instructional concepts. The fundamental purpose for curriculum mapping is communication – between teachers, grade levels, and across schools and district. Curriculum mapping proves a useful tool in verifying consistency from teacher to teacher and making decisions concerning the curriculum.
-
Curriculum Alignment – Curriculum alignment is the effort of bridging the local curriculum to the PA Academic Standards and associated national standards. It is a process by which teachers and administrators examine the practiced and proposed curriculum, and determine linkage to the standards requirements issued by the state and nationally recognized subject specialty organizations.
-
Curriculum Monitoring – Curriculum monitoring is conducted in an effort to be watchful of instructional planning and delivery. Monitoring is meant to insure the teaching of appropriate instructional elements, and evaluate the effectiveness of teaching pace and concept delivery timing.
-
Curriculum Revision - Curriculum revision is the process through which the district curriculum is updated. It addresses what’s missing in the curriculum, unnecessary, or in need of modification. It requires the examination of current practices and instructional resources, and attempts to make recommendations for improvement. A rationale for revision must exist, and a description of new student learning experiences, teacher activities, instructional materials, and assessment procedures outlined.
