INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY SERVICES

The District maintains a wide area network with high-speed Internet and Internet 2 resources and capabilities. With over 2000 computers in the district, our student to computer ratio is 2:1. Students use technology at every grade level and applications that cover everything from word processing, spreadsheets, databases, web design, Web 2.0 applications such as blogs, and other tools (web based and non-web based). As students advance, they study CAD design, advanced mathematics programs, and simulations. Students showcase their work at technology fairs and in competitions and have access to online resources in almost every classroom. The District also received ComputerWorld Smithsonian Awards for innovation in 1999, 2000, and 2001. The district has won the coveted Cable Ace Award every year from 2000, including this year.

The district provides cutting edge tools for our students and teachers to use in class. The district has over 20 electronic white boards and other similar devices. HS Science students utilize PDAs in class for gathering information. Students in our music classes use digital keyboards and videoconferencing is available for all grade levels in all buildings.

In addition, the District has an intranet for employees, a Web-based student information system for parents and students to communicate with teachers, automated library systems, and food service systems.

The district also boasts one of the largest technology teams within a school district in Berks County. We have a technology assistant in every school to assist our students and GM staff.
