Mini-THON news, we now how 118 registered for Mini-THON. Remember the deadline is March 20. Be sure you go on-line today to sign-up and don’t forget to print your permission form.

All students going to Utah with Mr. Selbst on the Service Learning Trip in June MUST attend a brief meeting during Homeroom, on Tuesday, February 28th, in room 225.

Kutztown University will be visiting Gov. Mifflin on Tuesday, February 28 @ 1 p.m.  They would like to meet with students that have been accepted to attend in the fall, as well as juniors that are interested in Kutztown.  Reading Area Community will be visiting Mifflin Wednesday, March 1 @ 1 p.m.  Sophomores, Juniors and Seniors are welcome to attend this visit and learn more about what RACC has to offer.  Both visits will be held in the counseling office.  You must have your teacher’s permission to attend, and you are responsible for any work missed.  These visits are a great way to meet with admissions counselors in a small group setting and learn more about what each school has to offer.

Mark your calendars for Monday, April 3 @ 10 a.m., when Cairn University will be visiting Gov. Mifflin.  Sophomores are welcome to attend spring college visits.

Attention students who are going on the trip to Penn State Berks with Mr. Smith and Mr. Price today: please meet in the main lobby at 10:45 for an 11:00 departure.

The Technology Student Association (TSA) will be having a bake sale this afternoon after school in front of the cafeteria. If you heard about the delicious cupcakes at the last TSA bake sale, there will be more available. Please come support us so we can go to the state competition in April!

TODAY is the last day to sign-up for the 2 on 2 volleyball tournament.  Sign-up with a PE teacher by the end of the day today.  Play begins on Tuesday, February 28th and is a single elimination tournament. HURRY!  Get your names in now!

On Friday night our boys basketball team will play at home vs Hempfield in the District III play-offs.  Since this game is under the direction of the PIAA District III we cannot accept our passes as admission.  This includes Governor Mifflin employee ID’s, student and adult activity passes and senior citizen passes.  Everyone attending the game will need a ticket.  Tickets will be available at the door at 6:00.

Our next Spanish Club activity will be our Chocolate and Churros Night on Tuesday, February 28th at 7:00 p.m. in room 200! Join us for a night of delicious food and fun company!

The team captain for each dodgeball team playing in the tournament this weekend should stop in room 152 before the end of the day on Friday to pick up important tournament information.

Seniors:  The correct deadline for the Al Lilly Memorial Scholarship is March 15, 2017.  If you are a student/athlete that has lettered in any sport, are planning to pursue a 4-year college education, have a GPA of 3.5 or better, and demonstrate excellent leadership qualities in the classroom and locker room, then you should apply for the Al Lilly Memorial Scholarship!  More information is available in the scholarship drawer in the counseling office.

The Berks County Republican Women are sponsoring an essay contest for students in 11th and 12th grades, with the prize being a guaranteed place at the Spirit of America Youth Leadership Conference being held in Valley Forge July 6-9, 2017.  If interested in learning more about the essay contest and Youth Leadership Conference, please stop by the counseling office for a packet of information.

Seniors:  Two new scholarships have been added to the drawer.  The PA Association of Medical Suppliers is offering a $1,000 scholarship to a deserving student who has overcome physical challenges with the help of home medical equipment.  Application deadline is April 7.  The Mohnton Fish and Game offers scholarships to students interested in pursuing studies leading to careers in the fields of environmental studies, forestry, soil conservation, wildlife biology, and wildlife management.  Application deadline is June 1, 2017.  If interested in either scholarship, more information is available on Naviance and in the scholarship drawer in the counseling office.

Junior girls interested in competing for the title of Berks County Outstanding Young Woman should stop by the counseling office for an application packet.  The deadline to apply is April 17.  A transcript is required with your application, and at the current time, you will not be in school from April 11 through April 17.  If you intend to apply, please be sure to request your transcript from the counseling office NO LATER THAN Monday, April 3.  Application packets can be found in the scholarship drawer.

ATTENTION SENIORS: Nominations for senior superlatives (also known as senior bests) are now live on Google Forms. The link is on the seniors 2017 webpage on the high school website. Nominations are only open until Friday, February 24th, so log on and vote now!

Attention Juniors and Seniors, if you are planning on attending prom this year, here is some important information that you should know:

  • Guest Permission Forms are due to Mrs. Redford by Monday, March 6. If there is a problem or a question please talk to Mrs. Redford before they are due.
  • Prom tickets will be on sale the following dates from 3:00 – 4:00 p.m. in the Main Office
    • March 14, 15 & 22
    • As always, you may only buy a ticket if you have NO (ZERO) obligations! Please check with Mrs. Redcay in the office to make sure your debts are paid.

Hey Seniors, did you come to the US from another country, or have you been in the ESL program in the past?  Do you want to apply to win some extra cash for post-graduation schooling?  Check out the Ninette Benitez Family ESL Scholarship Award in the guidance office.  Applications are due to Mrs. Fox in room 208 by 3:00 on Friday, March 31, 2017.

Are you interested in attending the Naval Academy after graduation?  The United States Naval Academy Parents Club of Central Pennsylvania is sponsoring a bus trip to the Academy on Saturday, March 25, 2017.  Interested students and their parents will see the Academy first hand, learn about the application/appointment process, and meet with local area high school graduates who are presently midshipmen.  Cost is $85 per person, and includes transportation to and from the academy, a presentation by a USNA Admissions Officer, a question and answer session with midshipmen, lunch, and a guided tour of the Academy.  Reservations are limited.  For more information, please stop by guidance for a flyer.
