Student Council
GMIS has a very active student council membership. Our council members are elected by their peers in September. Students interested in becoming a homebase representative must write a paragraph stating why they would like to represent their homebase. Then, elections are held within each homebase. The characteristics of student council representatives are: a good citizen who follows school rules, a hard-working and diligent student, a person who cares about the community and school, and a friendly person who relates well with others. Our council members meet the first Wednesday of every month at 8:00 a.m. throughout the entire school year. Some of their duties include: attending all Student Council meetings, asking for the ideas and opinions of others in their homebase, informing the class what was discussed at Student Council meetings, and involving others in Student Council activities. In previous years we have participated in various activities such as: Random Acts of Kindness, Disaster Relief, Pennies for Patients with the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, Coats for Kids, Daffodil Days for the American Cancer Society, The Giving Tree, a food drive, and making cards for the residents at Mifflin Court.
Yearbook
Every year students are chosen to represent their homebase in the GMIS Yearbook Club. These students meet after school to design our 36 page soft cover book. Students choose layouts, take pictures, and distribute the yearbook. For many students, this is the first experience with digital layouts and design. Students that remain interested in the yearbook will be able to join the yearbook club in the middle school. The GMIS Yearbook is published by Jostens, Inc. (www.jostens.com).
