The GMIS music curriculum is rooted in both the Pennsylvania Arts Standards and the National Standards of Music Education.

Grades 5 and 6 General Music Class

All students attend once a cycle for 45 minutes as a part of the specials curriculum.

ORCHESTRA - Includes violin, viola, violoncello and bass violin

• Small group lessons meet once a six day cycle for 30 minutes
• Orchestra rehearsals meet twice a six day cycle for 35 minutes
• Performances include the Winter Holiday Concert and String Fling

BAND - Includes flute, oboe, bassoon, clarinet, saxophone, trumpet, French horn, trombone, baritone horn, tuba, non-pitched percussion and pitched percussion (bells)

• Small group lessons meet once a six day cycle for 30 minutes
• Band rehearsals meet twice a six day cycle for 35 minutes
• Performances include; Winter Holiday Concert, Pops Concert, and GM Elementary Bands Concert

• Chorus meets once a six day cycle for 35 minutes
• Performances include the Winter Holiday Concert and Spring Chorus Concert

Grade 6 Chorus

• Chorus meets once a six day cycle for 35 minutes
• Performances include the Winter Holiday Concert and Spring Chorus Concert

Grade 6 Select Chorus (extracurricular)

• Meets after school from 3:30–4:15 p.m. once a week after winter break
• Members are selected by audition
• Performances include the Pops Concert and Spring Chorus Concert
