Welcome to the GMIS Physical Education web page!
GMIS's Physical Education Department is dedicated to maintaining an atmosphere in which every student feels comfortable in a safe, fun, activity-based classroom, where everyone has the chance to experience success. We promote lifelong fitness activities that will help our students become well-rounded individuals. We achieve this goal by incorporating different teaching styles, along with curriculum and activities, in accordance with the children's developmental needs and abilities. It is important that we stimulate our students both mentally and physically while allowing them to achieve success. Our inclusion style of teaching allows every student to master every skill at his or her own ability level while making important decisions that impact their experience.
Our physical education program uses a variety of assessment techniques to ensure that each student reaches the highest level of learning. These techniques include written assessments, skill tests and peer evaluations. In every assessment situation, the student is evaluated on the information discussed in class and the student's ability to perform the critical elements that have been taught in our class. If our students perform a skill using the proper technique we discussed, but do not hit their target, the students are still successful in learning our objectives. With these ideas it is our goal to develop well-rounded students and ensure their success in today's society. Fitness is not only important to our health; it is also fun!
