MATH - GRADE 2

Quarter 1:

  • Find the values of coin and bill combinations
  • Show P, N, D, and Q for a given amount
  • Complete 2 and 3 number suquences by using number patterns
  • Compare numbers, write the symbol <, >, or =
  • Count by 2's, 5's and 10's starting at any number
  • Make tallies and give the total
  • Find equivalent names for numbers
  • Construct fact families for addition and subtraction
  • Solve simple addition and subtraction number stories
  • Identify place value for ones, tens and hundreds
  • Complete "What's My Rule?" tables using a number grid
  • Complete one-rule Frames-and-Arrows diagrams using a number grid
  • Solve Frames-and-Arrows diagrams using a number grid
  • Tell time to five-minute intervals
  • Know addition facts
  • Know subtraction facs

Quarter 2:

  • Devise and use strategies for finding sums and differences of 2-digit numbers
  • Estimate approximate costs and sums
  • Add and subtract with multiples of 10 up to 100
  • Use partial sums method to solve 2-digit addition problems
  • Read Fahrenheit on a thermometer
  • Identify 3-dimensional shapes such as rectangular prism, pyramid, cylinder, cone and sphere
  • Identify 2-dimensional shapes such as circle, square, triangle, rectangle, hexagon, pentagon, octagon and rhombus
  • Identify symmetrical figures
  • Find common attributes of shapes
  • Identify parallel and nonparallel line segments
  • Draw line segments
  • Tell time by 5-minute intervals
  • Count back by 1's starting with any number (100 or less)

Quarter 3:

  • Use the partial difference method to solve 2-digit subtraction problems

  • Add three 1-digit numbers mentally
  • Add three 1 and 2 digit numbers
  • Add and subtract with multiples of 10
  • Solve addition number stories
  • Solve subtraction number stories
  • Model multiplication problems with arrays
  • Find missing addends for any multiple of 10
  • Know complements of 10, ie.: 7+3=10, 2+8=10
  • Count by 2's, 5's, and 10's and describe the patterns
  • Solve number-grid puzzles up to 100
  • Find the median (middle value) of a data set
  • Plot data on a bar graph
  • Measure to the nearest inch and centimeter
  • Compare fractions less than one
  • Understand fractions as names for equal parts of a region or set
  • Understand that the amount represented by fractions depends on the size of the whole (ONE)

Quarter 4:

  • Measure to the nearest 1/2 inch and 1/2 centimeter
  • Identify equivalences for inches, feet and yards using a chart
  • Use a ruler, tape measure and meter/yardstick correctly in appropriate situations
  • Find the area and perimeter of an object
  • Estimate totals for "ballpark" check of exact answers
  • Know and express automatically the values of digits in 2,3,4 and 5-digit numbers
  • Solve money stories involving change
  • Read and write money amounts in decimal notation
  • Use equivalent coins to show money amounts in different ways
  • Use a calculator to compare money amounts
  • Exchange pennies, nickels, dimes and quarters
  • Estimate and solve addition and subtraction number stories with dollars and cents
  • Solve 1-digit multiplication stories (multiples of equal groups)
  • Solve equal grouping and equal sharing simple division stories
  • Complete multiplication/division fact families
  • Multiply numbers with 0 or 1 as a factor
