This class is designed to introduce students in Grade 8 to the French and Spanish languages. Students study each language for a period of one semester. This program is a first step toward the acquisition of some very basic vocabulary, the development of accurate pronunciation, and an acquaintance with the peoples who speak these languages and their cultures. Emphasis is placed on those materials, strategies, and activities which enhance each student’s ability to function in the language. Special units include Holidays and Foreign Language Week. The culminating activity at the end of every semester is the preparation of a food that is specific to the target culture.
