The purpose of the Grade 8 Geography Class is to give the students a solid geographical knowledge base for their upcoming High School Social Studies and Earth Science courses. We begin the year with units on the five themes of geography, all aspects of map reading, and a review of the six continents that sustain a population.
The second half of the year we concentrate on population, climate, and environmental issues with special emphasis on how these issues relate to Pennsylvania geography and current events. To accomplish these goals we incorporate use of the computer lab working with Publisher, Excel, and PowerPoint. We also have mini units on cultural geography and basic orienteering. The geography classes meet four days out of the six-day cycle.
