Governor Mifflin School District provides special education services and programming for children with disabilities in accordance with IDEIA 2004, federal regulations, and Chapter 14 of the PA School Code. Children who meet the criteria set forth in the regulations under the categories of Autism, deaf-blindness, deafness, emotional disturbance, hearing impairment, mental retardation, multiple disabilities, orthopedic impairment, other health impaired, specific learning disability, speech and language impairment, traumatic brain injury, or visual impairment including blindness, as determined by a multi-disciplinary evaluation, will be provided a free appropriate public education (programming and related services to ensure that the child receives meaningful benefit from their education at public expense).

In accordance with Chapter 15 of the PA School Code, Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, and the American with Disabilities Act, Governor Mifflin School District will provide for each protected handicapped student, without discrimination or cost to the student or family, those related aids, services, and accommodations which are needed to provide equal opportunity to participate in and obtain the benefits from the school program and extracurricular activities to the maximum extent appropriate to the student’s abilities. A “protected handicapped student” is a child who is of school age with a physical or mental disability that substantially limits or prohibits participation in or access to an aspect of the school program. These services are distinct from those services provided to students determined to be eligible, or thought to be eligible, for special education programs.
Information about how to access these services can be obtained from the guidance counselor at your child’s school. Parents who wish to have their child evaluated for such services should put their request in writing and provide relevant medical records to the guidance counselor.
Governor Mifflin School District provides programs that are designed to enrich and challenge students who are identified as eligible for gifted services in accordance with Chapter 16 of the PA School Code. Eligible gifted students are those students who exhibit outstanding intellectual and creative ability. To further develop these abilities, enrichment opportunities are provided within the classroom in support of the student's grade level curriculum. Students may also participate in a specially designed pull out program in the gifted classroom where they engage in challenging activities with students who exhibit similar abilities and interests.
