New Mifflin Park Elementary School to Open in Fall `09: Redistricting Plans Underway
The Governor Mifflin Board of School Directors recently approved naming the new elementary building "Mifflin Park Elementary School." This school, scheduled to be open for the 2009-2010 school year, will accommodate students in Kindergarten through Grade 4 and is located on the same campus as Cumru Elementary and the Intermediate School.
Therefore, in August 2009, three K-4 elementary schools will be open. Because of the change in grade configuration (from K-3) and the additional building, redistricting is necessary. A team of administrators, together with Gross Transportation, has begun working on defining the attendance boundaries for Brecknock, Cumru and Mifflin Park Elementary Schools.
As the team works through this process, we will hold periodic meetings to advise you of boundary changes and to keep you generally informed on the progress of construction. Notice of these meetings will be given through our district website and through Connect Ed®.
As soon as we complete the process of redefining boundaries, we will notify you which school your child(ren) will be attending.
Meanwhile, just a few hundred feet away from the new Mifflin Park Elementary School, renovations continue at GMIS. Currently, there is a lot of roof activity as the contractors are removing and adding items required by the project.
Inside the school, mechanical contractors are replacing convectors in particular areas while the general contractors are installing drywall in order to create the new internal classroom walls. Work also continues on installing the duct work.
As a result of more extensive renovation work in May, the cafeteria will close on May 13, 2008. The students' lunch meals will be prepared at the Middle School and transported to the Intermediate School daily. We will be offering two cold lunch selections, yogurt bowls, prepared chef salads and having hot pizza brought in every Tuesday. We also will be offering a cold breakfast as well.
The swimming pool will also be unavailable for student classes and community programs beginning in May. By the beginning of the next school year, a quarter of the school's renovations are scheduled to be complete.
