Dear Class of 2009, I hope you are enjoying your last few weeks of summer! This letter is being sent to each member of the Class of 2009 to inform you of some of the traditions and plans for your SENIOR YEAR! Of course the year will only be a success with the participation and cooperation of everyone, so get involved. I have outlined a few of the activities you may look forward to this year, please e-mail me with any questions you may have.
The Class of 2009 is selling T-shirts to be worn on the first day of school. The shirts will be on sale Thursday, August 21, outside the High School auxiliary gym from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. for $10 while supplies last.
Class Officers: If you are interested in being a senior class officer, please submit a statement to Mrs. Harter via e-mail. The letter should include the position you are interested in obtaining and why you feel you are qualified. This is a HUGE undertaking, make sure you have the appropriate amount of time and energy for the position. Please remember, your class president and vice president will be speaking at graduation. Elections will be held the first week of school, consider your choices wisely to ensure a fun-filled senior year.
Senior Executive Committee: The backbone of our senior year is the Senior Executive Committee. Senior Executive Committee meets on a regular basis and helps to plan, make decisions, and organize activities for our senior year. Anyone interested in becoming a member must email a letter to Mrs. Harter at dharter@gmsd.k12.pa.us stating why you feel you should be selected to be a part of this group. Everyone must understand, however, that if you are selected to be in Senior Executive Committee, you must participate in two scheduled meetings per month (probably in the morning)! These letters must reach Mrs. Harter by Monday, August 18! Any letters received after the deadline will not be accepted. If you do not have access to a computer or printer, you may handwrite your letter and drop it off at the high school main office.
Senior Mural: In the past, the senior mural was completed over the summer and signed before the start of the school year, unfortunately we have not had anyone offer to design the mural to date. If you are interested in working on the senior mural, please e-mail Mrs. Harter as soon as possible so we may coordinate this effort. We will schedule an official “wall signing” when the mural is completed.
Senior Video: Anyone involved in the TV studio or who would like to contribute to creating the Senior Video should contact Mrs. Harter as soon as possible. This is a huge undertaking and if we do not have support from the senior class a senior video will not be a part of this year’s activities. Again, please e-mail Mrs. Harter if you are interested in working on the video (the first event to be taped is the senior parade and breakfast).
Senior Parade and Breakfast: On the morning of August 25, everyone is requested to report to GMIS for the SENIOR PARADE. Plan to arrive by 6:45 AM! We need to arrive early in order to get our cars and passengers organized. There is a specific parade route that we will follow and it is important for everyone to understand that all traffic laws will be enforced by Shillington and Cumru Police Departments. We plan to arrive at the high school at7:20 AM for aSENIOR BREAKFAST in either the cafeteria or a tent located outside (weather permitting).
Fundraising: In order to decrease the amount of money out of your pockets, we need to sell, sell, sell more than ever before! The Student Services fundraiser is the first fundraiser of the year and usually raises the most money for the class. If this first fundraiser is successful, additional fundraisers will not be necessary. The more money we earn now, the less we have to sell later!
Renaissance Fair Senior Ice Cream Socials Senior breakfasts Class trip Birthday Balloons Senior Gift to the school Senior picnic Graduation festivities Six Flags Senior lunches
I hope you are as excited for this fantastic year as I am – let’s work together to make it one you will never forget! Enjoy the last few weeks of summer!
-Mrs. Harter (dharter@gmsd.k12.pa.us)
