A little about me....
In the 2012-2013 school year, I will continue teaching the GMIS band and orchestra and many of the instrumental lessons. I can't believe that I am beginning my 11th year here at Governor Mifflin. How the time flies! I am excited about this coming year and our potential growth as musicians and human beings.
Outside the district, I teach brass lessons and I am on faculty at the Community School of Music and the Arts at the Goggleworks in Reading PA. I also conduct and rehearse the First Year Band (5th and 6th grades) and the Middle School Band (7th and 8th grades) with the Berks Summer Band Institute. I am the director for the Berks Summer Strings program that meets here at GMIS. I perform Eb Tuba with the Lancaster British Brass Band, and Tuba for the Bravura Brass Quintet. In the past I was a consultant and judge for marching bands with USSBA for 4 seasons, and taught brass with the Reading Buccaneers for 10 seasons and still substitute coaches on occasion.
I went to Tunkhannock Area School District. I started learning the trumpet in 5th grade. I played in concert band, marching band, and jazz band in middle through high school. I also sang in chorus. I really loved music. In high school I switched from trumpet to French horn, then French horn to finally baritone (euphonium).
After high school, I went to Indiana University of Pennsylvania to earn a BS in Music Education. My principle instruments that I played were euphonium (baritone) and bass trombone. With diploma in hand I began teaching; first at Arsenal Middle School in the Pittsburgh, PA and then at Bald Eagle Area Jr./Sr. High for four years.
While teaching, I took graduate school classes at Ithaca College, Indiana University of PA, West Chester University, Wilkes University, Villanova Univeristy and Lebanon Valley College. After taking some classes in conducting and tuba, I found a school that offered me a teaching assistantship in bands; Illinois State University. I earned a Masters of Music in Music Performance in both Wind Conducting and Tuba.
Two passions I have outside of music and education is fly fishing and running. I fish as often as time alows and run 4 - 5 times a week. Often you can find me either jogging next to, or fishing my favorite local steam; the mighty Tulpehocken Creek in Berks County.
I live in Lincoln Park with my wonderful wife, Jonna and son Josiah.
