Harocurt Trophies Reading Selections
Our core curriculum includes a language arts series titled "Harcourt Trophies." Each six-day cycle focuses on specific reading comprehension skills and strategies. The students complete an End of Selection test on Day 5. They take a spelling test and a Daily Language Practice (DLP) quiz on Day 6. The DLP quiz consists of three sentences, which students edit and rewrite.
On any day, your child may take home the reading book in order to reread and review the selections. We study six-eight vocabulary words with each selection, and this vocabulary is included on the End of Selection Test.
Reading Log
The best way to become a better reader is to read often. Therefore, part of the students' homework is to read, at home, 60 minutes each week. Every Friday, the students are to hand in a reading log.
