Dr. Robert McCarthy is in his ninth year as the head coach of the Governor Mifflin Golf Team. We are growing a program of dedicated golfers with great work ethic and integrity. This is the second year of the new format for deciding matches. It is a "head-to-head" format, similar to how they play tennis. Our number 1 golfer plays the other school's number 1 golfer, and whoever has the lowest front nine score earns a point for their school's team. Same for the back nine, whoever is low earns another point. And finally, whoever is low for the entire round earns another point. So each head to head match counts for 3 total points. If they tie on either nine or the total, each golfer earns a 1/2 point. The team with the most points after all 8 golfers have finished is the team winner. A tie could result if both teams earn 12 points. I like this way of scoring, since it makes the sport more team oriented and each head to head match counts equally. We are still improving upon last year, with a strong underclassman presence, and a good senior leadership group. Look for good things in the future of Mifflin golf.
