Hello Governor Mifflin families,

As an integral part of our district’s Health and Safety Plan communications protocol we want to make you aware of the closure of a second grade classroom at Cumru Elementary due to COVID-19. There have been four positive COVID cases within the same classroom in the past two weeks. After completing our contact tracing, there is the possibility that cases may have been linked or transmitted between individuals in the classroom. Families of the impacted students have been notified and the classroom will continue with virtual learning for at least the remainder of the week while our health team works with affected families to monitor students for symptoms.

At the time of this email, we have had 90 positive COVID-19 cases within our schools since the start of the school year. This is the first classroom closure that we have had to implement this year. We understand that the closure of a classroom or school has a major impact on our families. However, if we see potential evidence of transmission between students or staff in our schools, a closure is the best way to ensure we can take the proper steps to provide enhanced cleaning and additional symptom monitoring within a student or staff group.

As a reminder if you or someone in your household has taken a COVID-19 test, we ask that you do not return to school until a negative test result is received. Please continue to review and follow the procedures outlined on our COVID-19 information webpage, including the completion of daily health screenings. Report any and all positive or potential COVID cases to our district’s 24/7 COVID hotline at 610-775-1461 x. 7113.

Thank you for your continued cooperation in keeping our students, staff, and community healthy.

Bill McKay
