Hello Governor Mifflin families,

I wanted to share with you a brief update on our district’s continued efforts in response to the coronavirus 2019 (COVID-19). The number of cases in Pennsylvania has increased, as expected, and I understand that it is only natural that each of us have our own individual concerns. It is important to once again note that at the time of this email there are no confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Berks County.

Our district continues to take all recommended precautions as directed by the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), PA Department of Health, and the Berks County Department of Emergency Services. This week, several members of our leadership team, including myself, attended countywide meetings to ensure that our district is aligned with the county, state, and federal agencies both in our actions and in our access to accurate information. And I am happy to report that as per my previous email, our district is going above and beyond all current recommendations.

We have had a few members of our staff who contacted our human resources (HR) department to report extenuating personal circumstances regarding family members and in all cases, our recommendation for those staff members has been to stay home out of an abundance of caution. It is important to point out that these few staff members are not under a mandatory quarantine. They are in daily communication with our HR department and we have no reason to believe that anyone on our staff has had positive exposure to COVID-19.

In addition to participating in countywide meetings, our district leaders will meet Friday and will discuss additional preparedness opportunities. I will share that information in another communication as we continue to evaluate and adjust our response. I would also like to make you aware that we have added a page to our district website, which will serve as our district’s repository for all of our messages and resources regarding COVID-19. You can find that webpage at http://www.governormifflinsd.org/covid-19

In closing, I have to reiterate that we are at our most successful when we work together in partnership between our district and community. I hope you will join me in spreading only factual information and directing concerned neighbors to the resources on our website. By working together to mitigate the spread of wrong information, we can dedicate our time and efforts to proper planning to ensure the wellbeing of our students and staff.

In gratitude,

Dr. Steve Gerhard
Superintendent, Governor Mifflin School District
