Hello Governor Mifflin families,

Today, the Centers for Disease Control announced new guidance regarding face masks. According to the CDC, those who are fully vaccinated can resume activities without wearing a mask or maintaining six feet of social distance. Additionally, Pennsylvania will lift public school attestation on May 31. This is surely welcome news and a positive sign that we are moving in a good direction.

It is important to note that these lesser restrictions are based upon people being vaccinated against COVID-19. The health and safety of our students, families, and staff remains a top priority. While the majority of our staff members have received a vaccine, vaccination opportunities are just now becoming available to younger people age 12 and older and the lifting of the attestation order comes just four days prior to the end of our school year. We will continue to follow the district’s health and safety protocols to finish the 2020-2021 school year, including requiring all staff and students to continue to wear masks inside of school buildings, on district grounds, and school buses.

While the number of COVID cases in our schools has diminished over the past week, we want to ensure that we don’t become lax in our precautions to protect our students and families. Over the summer, we will be evaluating the health and safety plan and making necessary adjustments based upon the guidance of the CDC, PA Department of Health, and the PA Department of Education.

In the meantime, we appreciate your continued support of the mitigation efforts to keep our students and staff safe.

Sincerely,

Bill McKay
Superintendent
Governor Mifflin School District
