Hello Governor Mifflin families,

We are excited to reopen school for our first day of the 2021-2022 school year on August 23! As we get closer to that date, there are a few important things you need to know to be prepared:

Kids in school is our #1 priority
The overarching recommendation for schools is to be open to serve students this year. And to that end, Governor Mifflin schools will open for PreK-12+ students on August 23. The safety of our students and staff remains a high priority and we will continue to practice mitigation efforts, as outlined in our current Transition Forward Health and Safety Plan.

With the goal of keeping students in school in mind, it is important to recognize now that mitigation efforts may need to change throughout this year. That could include masking, changing or postponing large events, or making changes to daily activities, like lunch periods. Changes will be made based on updated guidelines or mandates from the CDC, PA Department of Health, and the PA Department of Education. At all times, any proposed changes to our mitigation efforts will be evaluated with the ultimate goal of keeping school open.

We are committed to keeping you informed
All COVID-19 and health and safety information continues to be updated and readily available on our website at www.governormifflinsd.org/covid-19.

Any changes to our health and safety requirements will be communicated to you via Skylert email and posted on our district website. We will continue to offer regular communication throughout the school year regarding changes to our mitigation efforts.

Stay Informed: Complete the Online Back to School Update on August 13
It is imperative that your contact information is up-to-date. To ensure you receive our regular communications, as well making sure your child’s medical, emergency, and general information is correct in our student data system, please log on to Skyward on August 13. You will be prompted to complete the Online Back to School Update. Please complete this process prior to the start of school on August 23.

Online learning is available through GM GOLD
Families who wish to continue online learning throughout this school year, may do so through our GM GOLD program, which is an established online program offered through our district. GM GOLD students are provided a technology package to complete courses online while still enjoying all of the benefits of being a Governor Mifflin student, including access to counseling services and co-curricular and athletic activities. GOLD students are also continuing to work toward a Governor Mifflin diploma.

If you are interested in GM GOLD, it is a full-year commitment. Please visit our website at www.governormifflinsd.org/gold to learn more.

We are prepared

Governor Mifflin School District was one of only a third of school districts in the state to fully reopen for five-day instruction last school year. Governor Mifflin offered more in-person instructional days than most districts in our county. And after completing a successful summer school program, we are proud to say that we are not faced with the level of learning loss that we anticipated at the start of the pandemic and we will continue to use the federal funds allotted to find opportunities to help our students succeed moving forward.

I tell you all of this because this information tells me that as a district of students, staff, and families, we have more experience than most working together to navigate a challenging year. We’ve done it already. We are not starting from scratch and we are coming into this year having learned from the past and steadfast in our shared goal to keep kids in school. To achieve that, I ask for your continued support and cooperation. While we may have had a picture in our heads of what this school year would look like, we cannot let preconceived or political notions detract from our ultimate goal of having students in school every day.

Please look for additional updates as we get closer to our first day of school on August 23. I look forward to a safe and successful school year ahead!

Sincerely,

Bill McKay
Superintendent
Governor Mifflin School District
