THE PARENT PART

We are set for an adventure that will keep your children engaged throughout the summer and, best of all, will make sure they don’t experience that summer learning slide. Many children lose between 1-3 months of what was learned during the school year over the summer. In grades K-2, this slide should be avoided completely! This is where you come in! Please watch the following quick video about the importance of summer learning.

Check out this video: The Home Front

The purpose of this first adventure is to become familiar with your Public Library and to go on a Scavenger Hunt!! Students will learn and use problem-solving skills and become familiar with appropriate behavior in the library and to locate awesome books!!

THE KID PART

Let’s Go on a Library Adventure!!

Where is your local public library?

Google it! Mapquest it! Go ‘old school’ and Map it!

It’s a Date!! Set a date for a visit to the library!!

Before We Set Out:

It is important that children learn to act appropriately in the library.

  • First, people are trying to read, so whispers are best. Shhhhhhh! Practice whispering with your child.
  • Ask, “Why are people supposed to whisper in libraries?”
  • When they run out of ideas, ask, “Can you tell me other rules we should follow in libraries?”
  • Watch the video below (So Funny!)

On the Way!

While on a walk to the library or in the car on the way, have your child tell you what the expectations are for behaving in the library.

At the Library:

Allow your child to get a library card! Exciting!!! Talk about how to respect and care for books.

Using the Scavenger Hunt Sheet attached…Let’s Go on our Adventure!
