All absences are classified as either excused or unlawful. Illness, religious holidays, death in the family, and exceptionally urgent reasons that affect the child are the only reasons for excusable absences from school. All other absences by state law must be entered as unlawful.

Call the Brecknock School Office (610-775-5079) between 8 and 10 a.m. to report your child’s absence from school. Homework may be requested at that time. Send a note (or doctor’s excuse if absent three or more days) to the teacher the day your child returns. If a note is not sent in within five days, the absence will be recorded as unexcused/unlawful.

Parents may drop off children at the curb in front of the office. At no time may any Brecknock children cross the driveway from the parking lot unless accompanied by an adult.

After 8:45 a.m., parents must bring children into the office in order to sign them in. Parents must present a written excuse or doctor’s excuse to the secretary at that time.

Parents or guardians must come into the office in order to sign out and meet their child. Children should bring a note to the teacher on the morning of the day they are leaving early.

(Parent pick-ups at end of school day) If you are picking up your child at the end of the day, we request that you send in a note to your child’s teacher. If you call during the day for your child to be a walker, the secretary must inform the teacher via the intercom system. This disrupts classroom instructional time.

Parents must pick up children in the main lobby or office. A secretary will check off parents and children on “walker” sign-out lists. Parents should be prepared to show identification.

If a child is to be released to a party other than the parent, the name of that person must be clearly stated in a note to the teacher.

Children may be excused for a maximum of five days per school year for educational trips. Forms requesting approval for the trip are available in the Brecknock office. Forms must be submitted to the office at least 10 days prior to the trip. If a trip occurs during PSSA or Keystone Testing, the dates will be considered unexcused for those assigned to take the test.

Notify the school secretary, classroom teacher, or principal of any change of address, telephone number, or other pertinent information. It is the parents’ responsibility to be sure that all contact information is correct and up-to-date.
