Code X is the newest program to complete the English Language Arts (ELA) program at Governor Mifflin beginning in 2014-2015. The goal in finding a resource in grades 6-8 was to address the requirements of the Pennsylvania Core Standards, provide resources that matched the level of rigor in the K-5 ELA program, LEAD 21, and prepare students for high school English courses.
Code X meets the demands of the core standards by consistently providing embedded literacy, higher order thinking skills, inquiry, transfer and application of learned skills, and 21st Century skills. Code X focuses on vocabulary, comprehension, writing, and performance tasks that will engage students in daily writing and close reading. T
he students will read on and above grade level text during multiple reads that will provide them with an appropriate stretch of their ability to navigate complex text. Code X provides a framework that ensures all students can engage with text with specificity, and that they all can participate equally in discussion as a class or in smaller groups, and in their writing.
