Scheduling Letter

Dear Parents/Guardians:

As we head into 2016 we will, once again, be approaching an important step in your child’s education and future: scheduling classes for next school year. Selecting the appropriate courses is a decision that should carefully be made to best prepare your son or daughter for their post-secondary education or career. We understand that this process can be arduous and overwhelming at times, and feel it is best done in a collaborative process between students, parents, school counselors, and teachers.

With this in mind, we have made some changes to better facilitate this collaboration and provide more support to you and your child throughout the scheduling process. In addition to student assemblies during the school day, we will be holding evening presentations for parents to provide information on the scheduling process. The evening presentations will include an overview of required courses and graduation requirements, information on new classes, and highlights of elective offerings. School counselors, as well as building administrators, will be available to answer student-specific questions after the general presentation. The presentations are grade specific and will begin at 7:00 p.m. in the high school auditorium on the following evenings:

  • Grade 8: Wednesday, January 20, 2016
  • Grade 9: Monday, January 18, 2016
  • Grade 10: Tuesday, January 19, 2016
  • Grade 11: Thursday, January 21, 2016

All course selections will be completed online this year; thus, allowing you to enter the course requests with your son or daughter at home. The time frame to enter your child’s online requests will be Tuesday, January 19 through Wednesday, January 27, 2016. At 3:00 p.m. on January 19, students in Grades 9 and 10 may begin entering course requests; and, at 3:00 p.m. on January 20, students in Grade 11 may begin entering course requests. To further assist you, a Help Session will be held on Tuesday, January 26, 2016 in the high school cafeteria from 6:30-9:00 p.m. Another session will be offered on Wednesday, January 27, 2016 in the school counseling suite from 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. These sessions will provide the opportunity for parents and their children without internet access or with technical difficulties to enter their requests. You will have the opportunity to ask additional questions, if needed. Information on the online scheduling process will be
distributed during the student assemblies, evening presentations, and will be available on the district web site. For additional scheduling information and updates due to inclement weather, please refer to the 2016-2017 scheduling button on the high school home page of the district web site: https://www.governormifflinsd.org/.

Families without access to the Internet can also take advantage of our evening library hours Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6:00-9:00 p.m. Or visit the Mifflin Community Library during their regular hours.

We hope that you take advantage of this opportunity to work together in building the best program possible for your son or daughter. Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions. Thank you, and I look forward to seeing you at the scheduling presentation and/or Help Sessions.

Sincerely,

John C. Althouse
High School Principal
