Dear Governor Mifflin School District Community,

In response to the policies and procedures to be put in place for GMHS students to return to in-person learning on Monday, March 21 (outlined in this video), we have received several questions and concerns regarding student safety.

First and foremost, we would like to dispel the belief that these measures are being put into place because it is not safe for students to return to school. It has been determined that there is no direct threat to our district, schools, or students in light of this week’s events and that it is safe for students to resume in-person learning. However, we understand that this occurrence has caused unease among many in our district. These procedures have been put into place not only out of an abundance of caution, but also to reassure district families and students that they are learning in a safe, secure environment.

We would also like to reiterate that these policies are temporary and subject to change as needed to keep our students and staff safe. At this time, we expect that the procedures as outlined in the video will be implemented for one week. Our administration will reevaluate and alter these procedures as needed and we will remain vigilant in assessing any risk to our Governor Mifflin community.

This week’s events have been difficult for all of us in the Governor Mifflin community and we hope that these measures are the first step in returning our community to a sense of normalcy. We thank you for your concern, consideration, and cooperation during this time

Sincerely,
William McKay
Superintendent
Governor Mifflin School District
